Arrival Of The First Consignment Of Covid19 Vaccines. The first batch of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines has arrived in South Africa. This makes it one of the first Sub-Saharan African countries to receive the vaccines. The one million doses will be given to healthcare workers who have been at the forefront of the battle against the Covid-19 virus. South Africa is Africa’s worst-hit country. The arrival of the vaccines raises hope that South Africa will start seeing a downturn to the virus which has devastated the economy. President Cyril Ramaphosa was at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to welcome this first contingent of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines. Although no date has yet been set for the start of the roll-out of the vaccines, it is expected to commence very soon.
