Tamikrest betekent ‘kruispunt’ in de taal van de Kel Tamashek, een nomadische bevolkingsgroep in de Sahara, beter bekend als de Toearegs. Met 5 bandleden uit verschillende delen van de wereld is dit de ideale bandnaam. De muziek is een ode aan de muzikale traditie van de Toeareg en wordt naadloos verweven met rock, blues, psychedelica en dub invloeden uit het Westen. Met teksten over het verlangen naar een vrije wereld brengt Tamikrest poezie en de cultuur van de Kel Tamashek naar het Westen.

Tamikrest is tamasheq for junction, connection. Since the 5 group members come from different regions of the world, it’s an ideal word to describe the band. Their music is a tribute to the Touareg identity, spiced up with modern rock influences. Lyrics are about the never-ending longing to a free world. Through the message of their songs, Tamikrest wants to make Tamasheq poetry and culture accessible to inhabitants of a world larger than the immensity of the Saharian desert.
