De ‘James Brown van Ghana’, zo wordt Gyedu-Blay Ambolley ook wel gekenschetst. En niet voor niks. Met zijn volvette afrofunk geluid, dat hij simigwa-do noemde, katapulteerde hij zichzelf in 1973 in de Ghanese muziekscene, waar hij direct insloeg als een bom met zijn funky, jazzy soulvolle benadering van highlife.
Na een bomvolle zaal in 2019 komt Gyedy-Blay Ambolley 4 februari 2022 terug naar Grounds. Voor vette highlife, afrofunk en afrobeat kun je niet beter wensen dan Gyedu-Blay Ambolley & his Sekondi Band!

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley is sometimes referred to as the ‘James Brown of Ghana. And not without reason. With his deep and groovy afrofunk sound, that he called simigwa-do, he exploded on the Ghanaian music scene in 1973. His concoction of highlife, funk, jazz, soul and proto-rap was (and still is) exhilarating.
