De X presenteert vanavond twee bijzondere solisten uit Afrika: Gasper Nali uit Malawi en Kaito Winse uit Burkina Faso.
Gasper Nali speelt zijn zelfgemaakte, 3 meter lange babatoni, een soort 1-snarige basgitaar, terwijl hij tegelijkertijd zingt en een eveneens zelfgemaakte basdrum bespeelt. Met zijn pakkende en aanstekelijke ritmes werd zijn eerste video een internethype, die meer dan 18 miljoen keer bekeken werd. Hij speelde al in behoorlijk veel zalen en op festivals, zoals Afrikafestival Hertme, Valkhof Festival, Zwarte Cross, maar ook in het buitenland zoals Roskilde, en in België, UK, Duitsland en Frankrijk. Overal waar hij speelt weet hij het publiek te enthousiasmeren en en aan het dansen te krijgen.
Kaito Winse is een griot uit Burkina Faso. Met zijn machtige stem en zijn virtuositeit op instrumenten als fluiten, percussie en mondboog weet hij het publiek op hun puntje van hun stoel te krijgen. Hij is niet alleen een bewaarder van de Peul-traditie (nomadische stam in West-Afrika) maar zoals alle griots laat hij in zijn teksten zijn licht ook schijnen op hedendaagse zaken en bemoeienissen. Hij is bovendien iemand die zich laat inspireren door heel veel andere muziek. Zo is hij bijvoorbeeld ook de frontman van het fantastische afropunk-gezelschap Avalanche Kaito, waarmee hij in 2021 in Nederland op Peel Slowly And See debuteerde.

Two amazing solists from Africa
De X presents tonight two excellent solists from Africa: Gasper Nali from Malawi and Kaito Winse from Burkina Faso.
Gasper Nali plays his selfmade babatoni, a 3 meters long, one-stringed kind of bass guitar, while singing and playing his also selfmade bass drum at the same time. His first videos took the internet by storm: over 18 million people have seen videos of him playing his bouncy and catchy songs by the shores of Lake Malawi.
He toured Europe already before, playing at festivals like Afrikafestival Hertme, Valkhof Festival, Zwarte Cross, but also abroad at Roskilde, in Belgium, the UK, Germany and France. Everywhere he plays the audience gets very enthusiastic and starts dancing.
Kaito Winse was born in a griot family in Burkina Faso and is of course a griot himself.
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, he easily alternates the playing of calabash, mouthbow, Fulani flutes and talking drum. With his powerful and captivating voice he recalls the intensity of opera voices. He gets the audience on its feet with his virtuoso playing.
Kaito Winse is not only the guardian of the Fulani tradition of his village, but he is also a chameleon with an eclectic musical universe. He is for instance the leader of the extraordinary afropunk trio Avalanche Kaito, with whom he made his Dutch debut in The Netherlands in 2021 at Peel Slowly And See.
