Changa Changa – D. Mweze Ngangura

en We are organising a second run of this rare and unique documentary about the music scene in Brussels in the 90’s from the viewpoint of Congolese filmmaker D.Mweze Ngangura, born in Bukavu in 1950, who studied film-making at the Institut des arts de diffusion in Belgium in the early 1970s.
Ngangura became a pillar of the first generation of filmmakers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). He made his name with La vie est belle (Life Is Beautiful, 1987), while Pièces d’Identités (Identity Pieces, 1998) won six international and regional awards.
fr Grand gagnant au FESPACO en 1999 avec Pièces d’identités, le cinéaste belge d’origine congolaise Dieudonné Mwezé Ngangura est l’invité d’honneur de cette rétrospective. Changa Changa, rythmes en noirs et blancs est un documentaire réalisé à Bruxelles et où musique et rencontres interculturelles s’enrichissent mutuellement pendant les années 1980 avec des portraits de entre autres, Manu Dibango,Toots Thielemans, Vaya Con Dios, Philippe Catherine, Victor Laszlo, Vicky Down, Zap Mama…
nl Congolese cinema en FESPACO? Mweze Ngangura won als eerste Congolese langspeler [Pièces d’identité]. de ‘Etalon de Yennenga’, de hoofdprijs van het festival in 1999. Deze filmmaker en sleutelfiguur viel reeds op FESPACO 1983 in de prijzen met zijn kortfilm documentaire Kin-Kiessé, docu over Kinshasa met de toen nog jonge Chéri Samba. Hij kwam de openingsavond op 05.12 o.a. deze film voorstellen. In combinatie met Changa Changa, rythmes en noirs et blancs, een zeldzame documentaire gedraaid in Brussel in de jaren 1980 over hoe muziek en ontmoetingen elkaar verrijken met de medewerking van wereldsterren als Manu Dibango, Toots Thielemans, Vaya Con Dios, Philippe Catherine, Victor Laszlo, …
