New year, fresh ideas! In 2020, next to organizing jamsessions, Afrogrooves will be hosting gigs and organize exciting music projects at Doka. These evenings will be a great chance to explore and experiment with ideas that were formed over the past years with our community.
Cavolo Nero Band
The first event in this series is a concert by Cavolo Nero: a seven-headed groove machine with musicians that met each other at the Herman Brood Academie in Utrecht. Back in the days during the first Afrogrooves sessions at Blijburg aan zee they had their first try-out. This time, they’re going to bring a solid set with authentic, danceable grooves and hypnotizing rhythms!

Cavolo Nero:
Cavolo Nero (zwarte kool) is het ingrediënt voor gerechten als minestrone, ribollita en allerlei Toscaanse specialiteiten, maar Cavolo Nero is ook hét ingrediënt van deze inmiddels 7 koppige Afrobeat band, oorspronkelijk afkomstig van de Herman Brood Academie. Geïnspireerd door bands als Altin Gün en Jungle By Night, spelen zij moderne Afrobeat, gemixt met psychedelica en synthesizers. Verwacht vooral veel energie en de drang om mee te dansen op tropische grooves. De band bestaat uit: Chris Walthaus (basgitaar), Jelle Crooijmans (gitaar), Sjors Derks (gitaar), Boudewijn Snijders (keys), Daan van de Ven (drums), Mischa Tombal (percussie), Sem van der Peet (percussie).
