In this typically electrifying speech at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) 2026 in Accra, Ghana, Prof. PLO Lumumba delivers one of his most urgent and unfiltered messages yet, a call for a truly united, borderless, peaceful, and self‑reliant Africa.
Tracing the journey from Ghana’s independence in 1957 to the Casablanca Conference, the 1963 Addis Ababa meeting, and the Lagos Plan of Action, Lumumba exposes the painful truth: Africa has held countless meetings, made countless promises, yet remains divided, dependent, and unprepared for the future.
From the wars in Sudan and Eastern DRC, to the exclusion of Sahel states, the failure of intra-African trade, and the irony of African leaders seeking solutions in Davos, Washington, and Brussels, this speech challenges Africans to move beyond talk, meetings, and declarations—and finally act.
Prof. Lumumba reminds the audience that Kwame Nkrumah was right, that Africa “got the crown without the jewels,” and that the next generation must decide whether this moment becomes another “annual jamboree” or the beginning of real transformation.
He challenges African leaders and citizens alike:
• Is Africa truly ready for a borderless continent?
• Are African leaders prepared for one identity, one currency, and visa-free travel?
• Will we empower our youth, who continue to flee the continent in search of opportunity?
• Are we ready to build African solutions, African industries, African technologies rather than waiting for the West, China, or Russia?
• Are we ready to silence the guns, end conflicts, and create a continent where peace makes prosperity possible?
• Can there be free movement without peace?
• Will Africa shape its own future in AI, the 4th & 5th Industrial Revolutions, or remain dependent on external powers?
• Are we heading toward another scramble for Africa?
