organizes another 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 of 𝗟𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼 (Lumumba, le retour d’un héros) on 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮 in 𝗥𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗷𝗽.
This documentary recounts the highly political celebrations of the return of Lumumba’s remains, but above all seeks to find out what remains of 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮, in the Congo and in Belgium. So far, his murder and those of 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗢𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗼 and 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗼 remain unpunished. 🇨🇩 🇧🇪

61 years after his assassination, Patrice Lumumba returns to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Or, as one of his children says, ‘the Congo returns to the Congo’. Lumumba was assassinated with two of his closest collaborators, in the middle of the Cold War and during the wave of African independence. Only one tooth appears to have survived the passage of their bodies in acid, an act committed by a Belgian police officer. This film recounts the highly political celebrations of the return of Lumumba’s remains, but above all seeks to find out what remains of Patrice Lumumba, in the Congo and in Belgium. So far, his murder and those of Okito and Mpolo remain unpunished.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 tells the incredible story of Kibomango (1977), a former child soldier turned Congolese national boxing champion. Now a struggling mechanic, he has devoted himself to helping former child soldiers and street children of Goma through boxing. Kibomango aims to instill in them a sense of discipline, ambition and self-worth.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰
𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 is a platform that is committed to the programming and promotion of African and African diasporic cultural creativity, diversity and activism in the Netherlands. The annual Africadelic Festival is an ode to the African continent and its worldwide diaspora, and offers a showcase of the cultural wealth and profound influence Afrodescendants have on global culture and society. Scheduled from May 21-31, 2025, this year’s festival offers another week filled with concerts, films, and talks. At the same time, we are organizing one-off events throughout the year, including this special screening of 𝗟𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼 in 𝗥𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗷𝗽.

61 jaar na zijn moord keert Patrice Lumumba terug naar de Democratische Republiek Congo. Of, zoals één van zijn kinderen het uitdrukte, Congo keert terug naar Congo. Eerste minister Lumumba werd samen met twee van zijn ministers Okito en Mpolo vermoord, midden in de Koude Oorlog en tijdens de golf van Afrikaanse onafhankelijkheden. Deze misdaad is tot nu toe onbestraft gebleven. Slechts één tand schijnt de zuurbehandeling van hun lichamen door een Belgische politieagent te hebben overleefd.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 vertelt het ongelooflijke verhaal van Kibomango (1977), een voormalige kindsoldaat die nationaal bokskampioen van Congo werd. Inmiddels is hij een struggelende monteur die zich zich heeft toegelegd op het helpen van voormalige kindsoldaten en straatkinderen in Goma door middel van boksen. Kibomango wil hen een gevoel van discipline, ambitie en eigenwaarde bijbrengen.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰
𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 is een platform dat zich inzet voor de programmering en promotie van Afrikaanse en Afrikaanse diaspora culturele creativiteit, diversiteit en activisme in Nederland. Het jaarlijkse Africadelic Festival is een ode aan het Afrikaanse continent en zijn wereldwijde diaspora, en biedt een showcase van de culturele rijkdom en grote invloed die Afrodescendants hebben op de mondiale cultuur en samenleving. Dit jaar vindt het festival plaats van 21-31 mei 2025 en bieden we wederom een week vol concerten, films en gesprekken.
