Congolese Afropop with rumba, jazz and pop influences
Congolese singer/guitarist Kadogo 1er (Lwela Kasulwe) comes from Lubumbashi, the second largest city in southeastern Congo-Kinshasa, and also lived in Kinshasa. The stage name Kadogo 1er, is a name given to him by a friend of his father when he was young. In Swahili, Kadogo means small and 1er means small but the best. Kadogo 1er sings in Lingala, one of the languages of Congo, and Swahili, which is also spoken in Congo. He has a soulful voice and has developed his own way of playing bass guitar.
Kadogo 1er knows how to mix Congolese rumba and traditional styles with pop and jazz. He has released several albums that have been well received. All songs are written by Kadogo 1er himself and are a clever mix between modern and traditional Congolese music and western music. A pleasure to listen to and highly recommended for fans of African and specifically Congolese music, and an attractive introduction for listeners who are not so familiar with this music. DJ Caliente will take us around the World with his danceable tunes especially selected for Dizzy’s audience!
