Na de release van Gilles Peterson’s compilatiealbum ‘We Out Here’ vorig jaar, duikt het achtkoppige Londense band, KOKOROKO, overal op. Hun prachtige soul/jazzsound is doordrenkt met afrobeat en rootselementen. Ze grijpen terug naar de West-Afrikaanse traditie en laten zich inspireren door Fela Kuti, Tony Allen en Ebo Taylor. De band staat bekend om hun herkenbare sound, die de lyrische gitaar van Oscar Jerome verweeft met het harmonische trompetspel van bandleidster Sheila Maurice Grey ondersteund door percussionist Onome Ighamre en drummer Ayo Salawu.
In maart verscheen hun gelijknamige debuut EP via Brownswood.
