In de jaren vijftig\, toen de Democratische Republiek Congo nog onder streng Belgisch bewind stond\, besloot een generatie Congolese muzikanten populaire muziek te gebruiken om de koloniale onderdrukking te bestrijden. Ze combineerden traditionele Afrikaanse ritmes met Afro-Cubaanse muziek om een muzikale genre te creëren dat bekend zou komen te staan als Congolese rumba\, een aanstekelijke groove die een ruimte van vrijheid en verzet bood tegen de wreedheid en vernedering waarmee de Congolezen werden geconfronteerd door de Belgische onderdrukking. Na deze geboorte hield de opzwepende Congolese rumba-beat nooit meer op. Congolese rumba begeleidde het land bij de zoektocht naar onafhankelijkheid en smeedde zo de identiteit van een hele natie. Ook veroverde rumba het hele continent met zijn boeiende gitaargeluiden en produceerde het het beroemdste Afrikaanse onafhankelijkheidslied ooit gemaakt. \nAan de ene kant is 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 het verbluffende verhaal van hoe de Congolese rumba sound zich in eerste instantie ontwikkelde en later Afrika veroverde. Aan de andere kant is de film een ​​emotioneel statement over hoe muziek barrières kan doorbreken\, wonden kan helen en hoop kan brengen. Aan de hand van originele interviews\, muziekopnames\, archiefbeelden en nooit eerder vertoonde live muziekuitvoeringen\, is 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 de reis van de sound die een natie heeft gevormd en Afrika zijn eigen muzikale sterren heeft gegeven\, zoals Franco Luambo en het OK Jazz-orkest\, Grand Kallé en Dr. Nico en het African Jazz Orchestra. In the 1950s\, when the Democratic Republic of the Congo was still under harsh Belgian rule\, a generation of Congolese musicians decided to use popular music to fight colonial oppression. They fused traditional African rhythms with Afro-Cuban music to create the musical genre known as Congolese rumba\, an infectious groove that provided a space of freedom and resistance against the cruelty and humiliation that the Congolese were facing in subjugation. After its birth\, the electrifying Congolese rumba beat never stopped. Congolese rumba\ncarried the country through its quest for independence\, producing the most famous African independence anthem ever created\, conquering the entire continent with its captivating guitar sounds\, and forging the identity of an entire nation. \nOn one level\, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 is the stunning story of how the Congolese rumba sound developed and later conquered Africa. Daarbij verrast de jonge band met een betoverende banjo en traditionele instrumenten uit de Amazigh- of Berbercultuur\, die zich door de eeuwen heen over Noord-Afrika verspreidde. Veel songteksten op het debuutalbum Azizdeg komen van Amazigh-dichters. \nHet zes man sterke Tarwa N-Tiniri is afkomstig uit Ouarzazate in het zuidoosten van Marokko.
