She consistently places her personal biography as a black African lesbian mother within the general debate about the failed rainbow nation of South Africa\, where racism and machismo are both regaining strength along with the divisions between high and tribal culture and between different linguistic and tribal regions. Instead of rapprochement\, reconciliation and the exchange of views\, this remarkable artist born in Cape Town in 1976 detects greater compartmentalization\, stricter racial separation and a climate of fear now exerting a firm grip over a national that was once a model of the post-colonial idea. \nIn this new work Mamela Nyamza focuses her attention on the hypocritical structure underlying our societies in which everyone is permanently judged and pre-judged. Switching back and forth between a ritual in which she summons up various aspects of strong women and a court process in which powerful figures are held to account for their horrific deeds\, Mamela Nyamza blurs the boundaries between spirituality and the law. Building on the success of the first ECR Africa Summit in 2019\, this year’s summit will examine and discuss policy options to develop a stronger relationship between the EU and Africa. \nThe first panel will discuss open\, inclusive\, accountable governance. This is fundamental to delivering sustainable development\, tackling global challenges and reducing the risk of spreading instability.  \nSecondly\, we acknowledge and champion the participation of women in politics and in society. Several African countries have significantly increased the proportion of women represented in their governments over the past few years. However\, women remain poorly represented in many other countries. \nDuring the afternoon\, we will focus on Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) and the opportunities for furthering the digital economy in Africa. De virtuoze muziek van dit bijzondere duo zal laten zien hoe onlosmakelijk Afrikaanse en Cubaanse muziek met elkaar verbonden zijn. Bona en Rodríguez worden begeleid door drumster Taylor Gordon. \nBona is een van Afrika’s meest veelzijdige muzikanten. Als klein jongetje in Kameroen viel zijn muzikaliteit al op en op zijn dertiende debuteerde hij in een Franse jazzclub. Eenmaal volwassen verhuisde hij naar Europa en later naar New York\, waar hij een vaste waarde in de jazzscene werd\, spelend met Branford Marsalis\, Joe Zawinul en Pat Metheny. Richard wordt geroemd om zijn virtuoze spel\, en vaak vergeleken met Jaco Pastorius\,  maar sinds hij zijn debuutalbum uitbracht\, is het ook zijn stem die de aandacht trekt. Bona zingt in zijn moedertaal Duala\, een Kameroens dialect dat opvalt door zijn haast hypnotiserende klanken. Zijn stem versmelt op een meesterlijke wijze met jazz\, bossanova\, pop\, afrobeat\, en funk. Recent ontdekte Richard de Afro-Cubaanse muziek\, o.a. resulterend in het album Mandekan Cubano. In Cubaan Alfredo Rodríguez vond hij zijn gedroomde partner\, een pianist en arrangeur die elke muziekstijl kan laten vlammen. \nAlfredo Rodríguez was als kind al idolaat van muziek en het allerliefst wilde hij drummer worden. Maar om op het conservatorium toegelaten te worden\, koos hij toch voor de piano. Een goede keuze\, want de Cubaan ontwikkelde zich al op jonge leeftijd tot een elegante\, maar ook explosieve virtuoze pianist en behoorde al snel tot de besten van zijn generatie. Een uitnodiging voor het prestigieuze jazzfestival in Montreux\, waar hij Quincy Jones ontmoet\, blijkt zijn doorbraak. In 2009 vlucht Rodríguez naar de Verenigde Staten\, waar hij politiek asiel krijgt en sindsdien resideert. In de afgelopen jaren bracht hij vijf ijzersterke albums uit\, waarvan de laatste in duo met meesterpercussionist Pedrito Martinez.

In 2020 slaan het Afropolitan Festival en AITP de handen in elkaar.  \nOumar Mbengue Atakosso\, de nieuwe directeur van AITP\, zakt af naar Brussel met vier jonge regisseurs van Afrikaanse origine die in Nederland wonen: Elisabetta Agyeiwaa\, Shamira Rafaëla\, Bouba Dola en Kymani Céder.\nIn oktober 2020 zullen dan weer vier jonge Belgische regisseurs van Afrikaanse afkomst hun steentje bijdragen aan het AITP-festival in Amsterdam.  \nNa de vertoning van de films volgt een debat met de curator en de regisseurs. His essays and blogs are published by The Guardian\, Sunday Trust\, Le Monde Diplomatique\, The Economist\, ZAM Magazine and Chimurenga Chronic amongst others. As an independent thinker and a witty critic of power abuse\, oppression and self-aggrandizement\, John  is feared for his sharpness and admired for his courage and superb writing.  \nHis first novel\, Born on a Tuesday\, was published in 2015 by Cassava Republic and translated into German and French\, followed this year by Be(coming) Nigerian and\, very recently\, his first comic book in collaboration with Alaba Onajin: On Ajayi Crowther Street. Also in 2019\, John was a judge of the Man Booker International Prize for Literature.  \nThe Nelson Mandela Lecture is a ZAM initiative.
