SUMMARY:Made in Africa - Reclaiming the Narrative Through Hip Hop and Legacy
DESCRIPTION:“A people without knowledge of their past history\, origin and culture is like a tree without roots” – Marcus Garvey \nTake a trip to ancient Kemet with us and explore the connection between ancient Kemet and the African diaspora. We will discuss the impact of African history on our present and the importance of placing Kemet (back) in Africa. This event is focused on shedding a light on Africa’s contributions to the world – in the past\, the present\, and the future. \nJoin us for a thought-provoking panel conversation on the significance of knowing Africa’s history from a decolonial perspective and the powerful role that hip hop played in re-imagining ancient Kemet. We will delve into how our ideas of ‘Africa’ have been shaped in the past and what it means to truly reclaim the narrative. During this event will focus perspectives from the African diaspora and discuss the importance of deconstructing eurocentrism and including African voices in historical narratives. \nOur panelists unique perspectives will guide us in understanding the importance of and celebrating Africa’s rich and diverse history\, and its impact on our sense of self and belonging in the diaspora. Through an engaging and interactive conversation\, we will explore how the African diaspora is reshaping the way we view (ancient) Africa and how this can positively impact our communities and future generations. \nDon’t miss out on this opportunity to learn from our amazing panelists! \nBut that’s not all\, the fun continues with some games and a celebration: toasting to 50 years of Hip Hop music with DJ Stereo Bam. \nPANELISTS\nBeylula Yosef – Co-founder Afrispectives\, Community organiser \nSamatar (Sam) Botan – Archeologist\, PhD researcher on the ancient Aksumite Empire \nBamba Al Mansour – DJ\, music producer\, curator and creative director. \nMODERATOR\nMichael Ghebreab – Co-founder Afrispectives\, Project Manager \nGet your tickets and join us for an interesting talk\, networking\, and an afterparty!
