SUMMARY:ECR Africa Summit 2020
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday the 4th March 2020\, the ECR Group – Conservatives & Reformists in the European Parliament will host their second annual Africa Summit. Building on the success of the first ECR Africa Summit in 2019\, this year’s summit will examine and discuss policy options to develop a stronger relationship between the EU and Africa. \nThe first panel will discuss open\, inclusive\, accountable governance. This is fundamental to delivering sustainable development\, tackling global challenges and reducing the risk of spreading instability.  \nSecondly\, we acknowledge and champion the participation of women in politics and in society. Several African countries have significantly increased the proportion of women represented in their governments over the past few years. However\, women remain poorly represented in many other countries. \nDuring the afternoon\, we will focus on Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) and the opportunities for furthering the digital economy in Africa. FDI has become an important part of the continent’s economic growth. \nThe digital economy in Africa provides not only opportunities for increased job creation and data for actionable insights\, but can also serve as the basis for recognising human rights\, accelerating access to quality basic services\, improving transparency and the accountability of governments\, and enhancing democracy. \nFor more information and to register: https://ecrgroup.eu/event/ecr_africa_summit_2020
