Het werd de eerste film van een zwarte\, vrouwelijke filmmaker die is geselecteerd voor de hoofdcompetitie van Cannes\, waar de film in première ging en ook nog eens de Grand Prix in de wacht sleepte. \nAchter de sluier van verliefdheid gaat een sombere toekomst schuil voor de jonge Ada en Souleiman. De film laat de persoonlijke conflicten zien die zich voordoen wanneer Amadou\, een jonge Gambiaan\, terugkeert naar zijn geboorteland na vijf jaar illegaal in Europa te hebben gewoond.
