Having immigrated to Portugal and the Netherlands\, he has become the icon of the Cape Verdean community in Rotterdam with his warm\, cheerful music. Be the first to visit this new hotspot during this screening!  \nAbout the film\nDjon África aka Tibars aka Miguel (Miguel Moreira) is a warm hearted young Portuguese man of Cape Verde descent who lives a carefree life until one day he is stopped on the street by a complete stranger who tells him he looks just like his father\, “a player and a crook”. Shocked by this new information he goes home and asks his grandma\, who brought him up\, about it. There\, he learns how his father was expelled to Cape Verde after serving time in prison and decides to travel to his country of origin for the very first time to learn more about his dad and his roots. \nDjon África catches the complexity of a second-generation immigrant identity. The sense of loneliness and displacement push the protagonist to take an inner and empirical journey to Cape Verde. Miguel’s discovery of his origins goes together with the exploration of the island. As he traverses warm and rural landscapes\, encounters local people\, and enjoys colorful parties\, he connects with a part of himself he had never embraced before.

In de jaren vijftig\, toen de Democratische Republiek Congo nog onder streng Belgisch bewind stond\, besloot een generatie Congolese muzikanten populaire muziek te gebruiken om de koloniale onderdrukking te bestrijden. Ze combineerden traditionele Afrikaanse ritmes met Afro-Cubaanse muziek om een muzikale genre te creëren dat bekend zou komen te staan als Congolese rumba\, een aanstekelijke groove die een ruimte van vrijheid en verzet bood tegen de wreedheid en vernedering waarmee de Congolezen werden geconfronteerd door de Belgische onderdrukking. Na deze geboorte hield de opzwepende Congolese rumba-beat nooit meer op. Congolese rumba begeleidde het land bij de zoektocht naar onafhankelijkheid en smeedde zo de identiteit van een hele natie. Ook veroverde rumba het hele continent met zijn boeiende gitaargeluiden en produceerde het het beroemdste Afrikaanse onafhankelijkheidslied ooit gemaakt. \nAan de ene kant is 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 het verbluffende verhaal van hoe de Congolese rumba sound zich in eerste instantie ontwikkelde en later Afrika veroverde. Aan de andere kant is de film een ​​emotioneel statement over hoe muziek barrières kan doorbreken\, wonden kan helen en hoop kan brengen. Congolese rumba\ncarried the country through its quest for independence\, producing the most famous African independence anthem ever created\, conquering the entire continent with its captivating guitar sounds\, and forging the identity of an entire nation. \nOn one level\, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 is the stunning story of how the Congolese rumba sound developed and later conquered Africa. DJ Satélite’s work has been featured in the documentary I Love Kuduro. \n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰\nAfricadelic is a non-profit organization that\, since 2016\, is committed to the programming and promotion of African and African diasporic cultural creativity\, diversity and activism in the Netherlands. Each year\, on and around International Africa Day (May 25)\, they organize the Africacadelic Festival in Paradiso and various other partner venues across Amsterdam\, including Eye Filmmuseum. This year\, the 10th edition of the festival was held from May 21-31\, 2025\, with a special focus on the 50th anniversary of ‘in’dependence (1975) of five African countries (Angola\, Mozambique\, Cape Verde\, São Tomé & Príncipe\, and the Comoros) as well as Suriname. The special screening of I𝗜 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗞𝘂𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗼 is a festival encore.

Lumumba was assassinated with two of his closest collaborators\, in the middle of the Cold War and during the wave of African independence. Only one tooth appears to have survived the passage of their bodies in acid\, an act committed by a Belgian police officer. This film recounts the highly political celebrations of the return of Lumumba’s remains\, but above all seeks to find out what remains of Patrice Lumumba\, in the Congo and in Belgium. Kibomango aims to instill in them a sense of discipline\, ambition and self-worth. \n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰\n𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 is a platform that is committed to the programming and promotion of African and African diasporic cultural creativity\, diversity and activism in the Netherlands. Although Fanon did not live to witness this\, since he died just a few months earlier\, the date remains a powerful symbol of the anti-colonial struggle he advocated throughout his life and writings. \n𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗻 (2024) is a compelling biographical drama directed by Jean-Claude Barny\, a French director of Guadeloupean and Trinidadian origin\, that focuses on Fanon’s tenure at the Blida psychiatric hospital in Algeria during the 1950s. In 1953\, the Martiniquan psychiatrist became the head of the hospital’s psychiatry department\, where he treated both French soldiers and Algerian victims of torture and introduced innovative\, patient-centered methods of psychiatric care. His progressive approach faced resistance from colleagues and the institution’s director. As the Algerian War of Independence intensified\, Fanon’s commitment to decolonization led him to align with the National Liberation Front (FLN)\, deepening his involvement in the fight against colonial oppression. \nThe film’s narrative intertwines pivotal moments from Fanon’s earlier life in Martinique and France with contemporary scenes in Algeria\, and ends with his untimely death from leukemia in 1961 at the age of 36 and his burial in Algeria\, at a cemetery dedicated to fallen FLN fighters. His final book\, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵\, which he dictated from his hospital bed\, was published shortly before his death and became a powerful manifesto for anti-colonial struggles around the world. Fanon\, who would have become 100 in July 2025\, remains a key intellectual figure in the field of postcolonial studies and current decolonization debates. \n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟱\nThis special screening takes place on July 5\, a day of significant importance in the life of Frantz Fanon for two reasons. First\, on July 5\, Fanon became the target of an assassination attempt in Rome\, where he had traveled that day for medical treatment following a car accident. Operatives from La Main Rouge\, a French intelligence death squad\, planted a bomb beneath a car they believed Fanon would use. Later\, an armed agent stormed the hospital\, forcing his way into Fanon’s original room\, not to find him there. Fanon\, aware of the bombing plot\, had asked to be moved to a different floor for his safety (Adam Shatz\, The Rebel’s Clinic: The Revolutionary Lives of Frantz Fanon\, 2024). Second\, July 5 marks the date when Algeria gained its independence from France in 1962\, a moment Fanon had dedicated much of his life’s work toward. Although Fanon did not live to witness Algeria’s independence\, as he passed away from leukemia on December 6\, 1961\, the date remains a powerful symbol of the struggle he championed throughout his life and writings. \n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰\n𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 is a platform that is committed to the programming and promotion of African and African diasporic cultural creativity\, diversity and activism in the Netherlands. The annual Africadelic Festival is an ode to the African continent and its worldwide diaspora\, and offers a showcase of the cultural wealth and profound influence Afrodescendants have on global culture and society. DESCRIPTION:Op 20 maart 2026 om 20u organiseren het Afrika Filmfestival en het Wereldcomité Tielt-Winge een filmvertoning in Tielt-Winge. Locatie: de Sint-Pieterskerk in Kiezegem\, Kerkstraat 2A\, 3391 Meensel-Kiezegem. \nWe vertonen Samia\, het waargebeurde verhaal van de Somalische atlete Samia Yusuf Omar. Ze houdt zich niet veel bezig met de politieke onrust in haar thuisland Somalië. Ze is vooral gefocust op haar grote passie: hardlopen. Terwijl ze urenlang traint\, droomt ze van een professionele carrière als atlete. De kers op de taart zou een deelname aan de Olympische Spelen zijn\, maar de weg daarnaartoe is niet geëffend. Samia moet de strijd aangaan tegen onderdrukking\, genderdiscriminatie en geweld. Gelukkig staat ze er als jonge vrouw niet alleen voor.
