DESCRIPTION:Op 20 maart 2026 om 20u organiseren het Afrika Filmfestival en het Wereldcomité Tielt-Winge een filmvertoning in Tielt-Winge. Locatie: de Sint-Pieterskerk in Kiezegem\, Kerkstraat 2A\, 3391 Meensel-Kiezegem. \nWe vertonen Samia\, het waargebeurde verhaal van de Somalische atlete Samia Yusuf Omar. Ze houdt zich niet veel bezig met de politieke onrust in haar thuisland Somalië. Ze is vooral gefocust op haar grote passie: hardlopen. Terwijl ze urenlang traint\, droomt ze van een professionele carrière als atlete. De kers op de taart zou een deelname aan de Olympische Spelen zijn\, maar de weg daarnaartoe is niet geëffend. Samia moet de strijd aangaan tegen onderdrukking\, genderdiscriminatie en geweld. Gelukkig staat ze er als jonge vrouw niet alleen voor. Although Fanon did not live to witness this\, since he died just a few months earlier\, the date remains a powerful symbol of the anti-colonial struggle he advocated throughout his life and writings. \n𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗻 (2024) is a compelling biographical drama directed by Jean-Claude Barny\, a French director of Guadeloupean and Trinidadian origin\, that focuses on Fanon’s tenure at the Blida psychiatric hospital in Algeria during the 1950s. In 1953\, the Martiniquan psychiatrist became the head of the hospital’s psychiatry department\, where he treated both French soldiers and Algerian victims of torture and introduced innovative\, patient-centered methods of psychiatric care. His progressive approach faced resistance from colleagues and the institution’s director. As the Algerian War of Independence intensified\, Fanon’s commitment to decolonization led him to align with the National Liberation Front (FLN)\, deepening his involvement in the fight against colonial oppression. \nThe film’s narrative intertwines pivotal moments from Fanon’s earlier life in Martinique and France with contemporary scenes in Algeria\, and ends with his untimely death from leukemia in 1961 at the age of 36 and his burial in Algeria\, at a cemetery dedicated to fallen FLN fighters. His final book\, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵\, which he dictated from his hospital bed\, was published shortly before his death and became a powerful manifesto for anti-colonial struggles around the world. Fanon\, who would have become 100 in July 2025\, remains a key intellectual figure in the field of postcolonial studies and current decolonization debates. \n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟱\nThis special screening takes place on July 5\, a day of significant importance in the life of Frantz Fanon for two reasons. First\, on July 5\, Fanon became the target of an assassination attempt in Rome\, where he had traveled that day for medical treatment following a car accident. Operatives from La Main Rouge\, a French intelligence death squad\, planted a bomb beneath a car they believed Fanon would use. Later\, an armed agent stormed the hospital\, forcing his way into Fanon’s original room\, not to find him there. Fanon\, aware of the bombing plot\, had asked to be moved to a different floor for his safety (Adam Shatz\, The Rebel’s Clinic: The Revolutionary Lives of Frantz Fanon\, 2024). Second\, July 5 marks the date when Algeria gained its independence from France in 1962\, a moment Fanon had dedicated much of his life’s work toward. Although Fanon did not live to witness Algeria’s independence\, as he passed away from leukemia on December 6\, 1961\, the date remains a powerful symbol of the struggle he championed throughout his life and writings. \n𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰\n𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 is a platform that is committed to the programming and promotion of African and African diasporic cultural creativity\, diversity and activism in the Netherlands. He brought his message of Black pride to the US during the height of the Harlem Renaissance (1918-1940) and became a pioneer in the fight for civil rights for Black Americans. After his untimely death\, Garvey’s teachings and philosophy have impacted many social and political movements around the world\, including the Rastafarian\, Black Power\, and current Black Lives Matter movements. His improbable life story\, taken to the big screen by award-winning Jamaican-American filmmaker Roy T. Shocked by this new information he goes home and asks his grandma\, who brought him up\, about it. There\, he learns how his father was expelled to Cape Verde after serving time in prison and decides to travel to his country of origin for the very first time to learn more about his dad and his roots. \nDjon África catches the complexity of a second-generation immigrant identity. The sense of loneliness and displacement push the protagonist to take an inner and empirical journey to Cape Verde. Miguel’s discovery of his origins goes together with the exploration of the island. Het verhaal loopt op de beklijvende soundtrack van de laatste brief van Patrice Lumumba aan zijn vrouw Pauline\, geschreven kort voor hij vermoord werd in E’ville. \nCongo Lucha van Marlène Rabaud (Democratische Republiek Congo\, 2018) (60 min.) (Nederlands/Engels ondertiteld) \nDe militanten van La Lucha (“Lutte pour le Changement”) zijn geboren in Goma\, in het oosten van de Democratische Republiek Congo. Ze zijn vastberaden om hun land te veranderen. Ze zetten zich in voor een betere toekomst. Sinds 2012 strijden zij vreedzaam voor veiligheid en goede sociale leefomstandigheden. Zij hebben ook geijverd voor het vertrek van president Joseph Kabila\, die de verkiezingen van 2016 heeft uitgesteld. Gedurende twee jaar volgde Marlène Rabaud de jongeren van La Lucha tijdens hun acties op het terrein en hun confrontaties met het regime van Kabila. Congo Lucha is een kostbare getuigenis van een sleutelmoment in de woelige geschiedenis van Congo.  \nAansluitend panelgesprek over de huidige rol van La Lucha in Congo.  \nSlotconcert met Dikwan (22u30) \nDoor de muzikale stijl van Dikwan (Erickson) kan men de warmte van de zon\, de gezelligheid en de feestelijke geest van zijn land voelen.  De diversiteit en de mix van zijn muziek is terug te vinden in de rumba-rock maar ook in de latino-wereldmuziek en traditionele afro-muziek. Zijn passie en professionaliteit kan een publiek drie tot vier uur lang op het puntje van hun stoel houden.

Een muzikant die politicus werd om zijn land Oeganda probeert te bevrijden\, waar omkoping\, intimidatie en geweld de meest normale gang van zaken zijn.\nDe film focust zich op zijn titanische vrijheidsstrijd tegen een diepgewortelde dictatuur. De ongerepte kritiek van Bobi Wine brengt een spanning met zich mee. Hoe ver gaat hij om zijn land te bevrijden? En welke rol speelt zijn muziek in dit verhaal? Het gaat over zijn strijd voor gerechtigheid en zijn reis van getto naar het parlement. Maar het gaat niet alleen over Bobi Wine\, het gaat ook over Oeganda en de uitdagingen waar het land voor staat. \nOver Africa’s Calling:\nAfrika wordt vaak nog steeds gezien als één land\, maar niks is minder waar. Het continent bestaat uit 54 onafhankelijke landen met elk een rijke cultuur\, eigen tradities en booming hoofdsteden. Africa’s Calling is een nieuw project van De Voorkamer waarin we per evenement één Afrikaans land leren kennen vanuit het perspectief van de Afrikaanse diaspora in Utrecht. Bobi Wine’s pristine criticism entails a fiers tension. How far does he go to liberate his country? And what role does his music play in this story? It is about his fight for justice and his journey from ghetto to parliament. But it is not only about Bobi Wine\, it is also about Uganda and the challenges the country is facing.  \nAbout Africa’s Calling:\nAfrica is often seen as one country\, but in fact the continent consists of 54 independent countries. In 2020 slaan het Afropolitan Festival en AITP de handen in elkaar.  \nOumar Mbengue Atakosso\, de nieuwe directeur van AITP\, zakt af naar Brussel met vier jonge regisseurs van Afrikaanse origine die in Nederland wonen: Elisabetta Agyeiwaa\, Shamira Rafaëla\, Bouba Dola en Kymani Céder.\nIn oktober 2020 zullen dan weer vier jonge Belgische regisseurs van Afrikaanse afkomst hun steentje bijdragen aan het AITP-festival in Amsterdam.  \nNa de vertoning van de films volgt een debat met de curator en de regisseurs.
