DESCRIPTION:Just like the mythological bird of the same name\, Ghanaian Santrofi flutters through an exceptionally beautiful musical landscape: cheerful\, colourful and above all very energetic. With a passion for vintage highlife grooves and an infectious funk touch\, they are going to revive Ghana’s golden musical era for the second time at GROUNDS. \nSantrofi was formed in 2019 by a group of dedicated young musicians with a shared love for the music they grew up with: highlife. This supergroup\, led by charismatic producer-bassist Emmanuel Kwadwo Ofori\, unites eight of Accra’s most gifted musicians. Their aim is to celebrate classic highlife music\, in all its diverse variants and assimilated styles from early period Afro-Cuban and calypso strains to funky soul workouts and the Nigerian influences of afrobeat and juju grooves. Expertly executed with the requisite rippling guitars\, tight horn section\, driving percussion and fine harmony vocals. \nTheir new album Making Moves (2025) is both a celebration of Santrofi’s roots and a leap into the future of highlife\, bringing a new vibe of funk driven dancefloor bangers and soulful songs reflecting on life directly from the streets of Accra. On stage\, they break down hierarchies as the musicians alternate their roles each growing on the other’s talent while harmonizing as a whole. \nSince their formation Santrofi have brought their fresh highlife energy to stages all over Europe\, including Roskilde (Denmark)\, FMM Sines (Portugal) and WOMAD (UK)\, and lately have also gone down a storm in Japan (13 sold out shows) and played in the USA for the first time in 2024.
