Ali Farka Touré\, die net in Amerika een Grammy-award heeft gekregen voor de plaat die hij maakte met Ry Cooder\, was er ook. Later zag ik hen samen naar buiten lopen. Farka droeg zijn gitaar – een teken van respect voor zijn oudere collega” (schrijfster Lieve Joris in “Mali Blues”) \n“Als het maximum 5 is dan geef ik hem een 10”\, zei zijn landgenoot Ali Farka Touré dan ook ooit over hem. Moest hij Boubacars laatste album Dounia Tabolo kunnen beluisteren\, zou Ali Farka ongetwijfeld even enthousiast zijn. Als geen ander legt Boubacar Traore de link tussen de Afro-Amerikaanse blues en de Malinese rootsmuziek in samenwerking met een keur aan artiesten uit de het zuiden van de VS zoals Cedric Watson\, Corey Harris\, Leyla McCalla. Zijn geraffineerde getokkel en gepluk en zijn zonnige-melancholische zang dwingt tot stilzwijgen en meedeinen. Motor achter de melodielijnen is het aanstekelijke khassonké-ritme van de kalebas die bespeeld wordt door Babah Koné. Vincent Bucher voegt er gevoelige mondharmonica-lijnen aan toe. Een geweldige kans om deze Malinese legende nog eens aan het werk te zien \nBoubacar Traore: gitaar\, zang\nBabah Koné: kalebas\nVincent Bucher: mondharmonica \nFR// C’est un grand honneur d’accueillir en nos murs l’un des pères fondateurs de la musique mandingue moderne : Boubacar Traoré. Respecté et reconnu de tous au Mali\, les jeunes comme les vieux s’extasient de son parcours et de son empreinte sur le monde. Car Boubacar Traoré porte en lui toutes les beautés du blues africain. Il est le seul à mêler avec une authenticité rare et émouvante les limons du fleuve Niger à ceux du Mississipi. Son jeu de guitare autodidacte\, unique\, inimitable\, doit beaucoup à la kora dont il s’est inspiré. Mais on y trouve des couleurs et un phrasé qui rappellent ceux des grands bluesmen noirs américains du Sud profond : Blind Willie McTell\, Robert Johnson\, Muddy Waters… \nA 20 ans\, dans les années 60 marquées par l’euphorie des Indépendances\, Boubacar Traoré était le Chuck Berry\, l’Elvis Presley malien. Le premier\, bien avant son cadet Ali Farka Touré\, à jouer une musique d’inspiration mandingue avec une guitare électrique. A cette époque\, les maliens se réveillaient au son de la voix mélancolique et de la guitare saturée de Boubacar. Des tubes comme « Mali Twist » et  « Kayeba » ont fait danser une génération qui découvrait la liberté\, juste avant que le Mali ne connaisse une sombre période suite au coup d’état militaire en 1968. Mais il en fallait plus pour que le talent de Kar Kar tombe aux oubliettes\, et son succès n’a pas cessé de croître tant qu’il est devenu cette icône incontournable.
